Chuck Wyrostok ventured into photography while in high school in New York and
scored front pages on several NYC dailies before he was eighteen.
Before he knew it, he was awarded a
Best-In-Show award by NPPA'S Press Photographers Association of Long Island and
began shooting commercial and corporate assignments for in-house publications at
NY Telephone, Long Island Lighting Company and others.
Based in West Virginia now, he shoots editorial and commercial
work for national magazines, colleges, and trade magazines. But his first love
is recording the mystery and wildness of Appalachia. He says "people outside
West Virginia would be surprised by the rich fabric of mountain folk. Shockingly
frank and quietly strong. People with grit, attuned to survival." His
depictions of Appalachian life have appeared in several West Virginia State
Juried Exhibitions and he was featured recently in the “50 States” issue of
Photo District News.
Wyrostokąs photographic odyssey has
deepened his outlook and tenacity for “getting it right”. Clients call on him
now for his ability to weave seasoned vision and years of experience into
refreshing, story-telling images.
A show of recent black and white work
is in the works.
